Many people make this statement because:
1. They feel like their financial situation is out of control and cannot be managed.
2. They have been living from paycheck to paycheck so long, it seems like their only reality
3. They have not received sound financial help or someone who has genuinely wanted to assist them with their finances.
People hardly want to speak about finances out of fear of judgement and breach of confidentiality. I get it completely!
I would never advise someone to do something that I do not believe in my heart of hearts. The truth is that we have all at some point or another struggled with our finances and made decisions that are considered unwise but it is all a part of the process of learning.
Please do not reject elevation or education because of the messenger or fear of judgement. You deserve so much more. You deserve financial freedom! You do not deserve to live from pay check to pay check but if this is all you know, then how would you change this if you do not alter the way that you think or behave.
Allow yourself the opportunity to at least listen and try. If you have tried and failed, then at least you can say that you have tried.
Budgets changed my life for the better. I lived from pay check to pay check, and it was not because of the focus on "wants". When I started out in my career, I had a car loan, rent, utilities... you name it! After paying these bills, I did not have sufficient funds to survive on for the remainder of the month.
So I get it when you say your needs are that much that it does not even allow you to focus on anything else.
The other day when I did a Budgeting Webinar, an attendee contacted me after the fact, and shared their financial "dilemma" and it took me back to that place.
They shared that they have a full time job, and after paying their mortgage and car payments, they are left with less than $500 for the month.
This does not include utilities, groceries, nor does it include transportation or any other expenses.
Without any further information, I knew that this individual was unable to, at a minimum, pay all of their needs-based expenses in their entirety because it is simply impossible.
I know that many people share this story, and so if you fit into this bucket where you have identified that a budget cannot save you and your income is just not enough for you to pay for your basic needs, I implore you today to:
1. Get creative - Please identify what you are good at and explore opportunities to create another source of income immediately.
2. Find a new job - If you are skilled, it may be time to find a new job if your salary is not moving.
3. Find an *additional* job - You may need to get another job in the short term in order for you to manage because your bills are just mounting with no plan to resolve.
4. No credit card debt - Do not answer this problem with a credit card or any additional debt for that matter.
You deserve to be happy but you have to take control of your finances. You also deserve to be successful but you require a plan. Freedom is within your reach but you need a plan to properly control and manage your finances.
If you are overwhelmed and need assistance with developing this plan, we are here for you!
